Catherine Street Lights
Before the end of the previous council, when the Lib Dems were in joint administration, the council agreed to start the process of reinstating the lights at the Catherine Street junction.
Marthos Christoforu said, “From the beginning the problems with this junction were highlighted and community feedback was clear - local people, including the visually impaired and disabled, find the junction difficult to navigate. They want the lights to go back.”
The cost of putting the lights back was brought to a recent council meeting and the project was rejected because it would cost too much and the council simply did not have the money. This is another casualty of the difficult financial position the council finds itself in because of years of SNP government underfunding.
Marthos went on, “The junction continues to cause anxiety for elderly, disabled and visually impaired people. I want our town centre to be safe and welcoming place for local people and visitors.”
