Council group oppose change to 3 weekly bin collections

The Scottish Liberal Democrat council group on East Dunbartonshire council are frustrated with the change from two to three weekly bin collections getting introduced by the SNP and Labour administration after again opposing the change.
The council group which then included Susan Murray MP voted last year to NOT change from two to three weekly bin collections. We challenged the SNP and Labour administration to stand up to the SNP Scottish Government’s reckless council tax freeze during the worst period of inflation in several generations.
We believed the savings created were not justified as it is an essential service and could be funded from reserves which were at £20m in 2022 when the Liberal Democrat group was last in administration.
The SNP Scottish government will fund the council for active travel corridors but won’t keep up funding for essential services like road maintenance and refuse bins.
Until 2022 the Liberal Democrat’s were involved in the administration for more than four years. Since then the SNP Labour administration have continued to prioritise Holyrood vanity projects at the cost of local government and residents of East Dunbartonshire are now experiencing the decline being felt across Scotland.
The Liberal Democrat’s have and always will focus on meaningful local government and will continue to do so whilst in opposition.
