Lenzie Academy Rebuild Stalled
The replacement for Lenzie Academy has been delayed along with 4 other school projects, including the replacement of Balmuildy Primary School and Westerton Primary School and the refurbishment and improvement of Bearsden Primary School, and Milngavie Primary School; all these projects were started by the previous Lib Dem joint council administration.
Cllr Susan Murray said “the school community has been waiting a long time for Lenzie Academy to be replaced so any delay is disappointing. Poor management of the finances by governments north and south of the border, has let us down, resulting in the five school buildings in a poor condition in East Dunbartonshire not being upgraded.”
A new Lenzie Academy is long overdue, but concerns have been raised about the site at Whitegates. The SNP and Labour rejected a proposal to consult the wider community, but now the delay might give the council time to consider other sites so the community green space can be preserved and prevent the loss of mature trees and valuable natural habitat. Susan has written to the council to ask them to seriously consider alternative sites and, in the meantime, carry out the necessary repairs and maintenance on the exisiting school building.
