MP for Mid Dunbartonshire, Susan Murray, has called on Royal Mail not to cut deliveries of second-class post or scrap Saturday deliveries, as proposed in recent plans.

The shake-up would also see deliveries only on alternating weekdays, with businesses and families across the constituency forced to wait longer for important deliveries.

Many people in Mid Dunbartonshire rely on daily postal services, including those running online businesses, and those living in our most remote places, especially the elderly who are likely to be the worst affected.

While local post offices continue to do an excellent job and help some of the most vulnerable people with essential functions of everyday life, these slashing cuts to Royal Mail deliveries would make it more difficult for them to do their jobs.

A long-term community activist and former councilor, Susan has strong links with local businesses and communities, giving her a deep understanding of the importance of mail services to them and those they serve.

Susan Murray MP said:

“Many people in Mid Dunbartonshire, especially our local businesses and our elderly, rely on regular and effective postal services every day; these cuts put that at risk.

By curtailing these vital services, Royal Mail will be making life more difficult for many people in our community, and it is a decision they should immediately reverse.

Doing so would also help our excellent local post offices to do their jobs, providing services and assistance for many, including some of the most vulnerable people in our community"
