New Health and Care Centre Needed Due to Broken NHS Buildings

Susan Murray has said that the £38m in high-risk repairs required by NHS buildings in Greater Glasgow and Clyde shows why Bearsden and Milngavie must have a new health and care centre.
Susan’s comments come after a Freedom of Information (FOI) request by the Scottish Liberal Democrats revealed hundreds of NHS buildings in need significant repairs.
The FOI further showed that the repairs would cost the Scottish taxpayer an eye-watering £64m.
Unreliable government funding has disrupted planning across the health service, leaving many buildings dangerous and energy inefficient
More than half of the estimated cost will need to go towards services that constituents in Mid Dunbartonshire access regularly.
Good local health and care services are key to keeping people out of hospital and reducing the acute pressure on the NHS by treating people in their communities
These worrying numbers highlight the dire need to give residents of Bearsden and Milngavie access to better quality local healthcare facilities, a cause that Susan has been a long-time champion for.
Susan Murray MP said:
“These statistics uncovered by the Scottish Liberal Democrats are disappointing but not surprising.
“That so many buildings across Greater Glasgow and Clyde are in such poor condition shows how important it is to treat people in their communities and reduce the need for hospital care. A health and care centre for the people of Bearsden and Milngavie will allow us to do this, which is why I am calling for the Scottish and UK Governments to fund it properly.
If not, we can expect further pressure on our already stretched NHS facilities in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, resulting in poorer care and outcomes.”
