A local update from your Liberal Democrat MP for Mid Dunbartonshire, Susan Murray. On this week's update, the budget debate continued in Westminster.

THE BUDGET

I took part in the ongoing Budget debate in Parliament, raising issues of concern in Mid Dunbartonshire, including our charities, WASPI women,  and small businesses, and repeating our calls for a health and care centre.

MILNGAVIE AND BEARSDEN HEATH AND CARE CENTRE

It was a pleasure to welcome the additional capital funding for Scotland in the Budget in Parliament today. But it must now mean that our community gets our much-needed health and care centre.

If you have not signed our petition, you can find it here.

WORKING TOWARDS HEALTH EQUALITY

After meeting them at conference, it was great to catch up with Health Equals recently and to add my voice to their campaign. It’s a scandal that things like being a single parent and poor housing can have such an impact and we need to work together to fix it.

LET'S END INEQUALITY IN BABY LOSS

Tommy's and SANDS UK do important work across Scotland, including in my constituency. I’m proud to support them, and the inspirational Lou Caldwell, to end inequality in baby loss and save babies’ lives. These are such important issues, both locally and nationally.

ED DAVEY ON US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

Following the US Presidential election, Liberal Democrats in Westminster are the constructive opposition to the Government. We will continue to stand up for liberal, progressive, inclusive values.

EAST DUNBARTONSHIRE VOLUNTARY ACTION SURVEY

East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action has published the results of their recent survey into the issues that matter in our community.

You can find more of their results here

LOCAL PLANNING CONSULTATIONS

Views are being sought on a range of planning issues including the historic environment, housing and developer contributions for schools.

You can find all the information here

WESTERHILL DEVELOPMENT ROAD

East Dunbartonshire Council is seeking views on the Westerhill Development Road.

You can access the development's website here and a public drop-in session is being held in the War Memorial Hall, Balmuildy Road, Bishopbriggs, G64 3BS, on Monday 11 November 2024, between 5pm and 8pm.

WINTER SUN LAMPS

Mental health is as important as physical health. As the long nights start to draw in, it's important to keep good mental health in mind.

That's why I'm happy to support our local libraries who will be the first in Scotland to offer Wintering Well Boxes, including sun lamps and other tools to help combat seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

You can find out more about the initiative here

NEXT DROP-IN SURGERY

My next drop-in surgery will be on Saturday 14 December.  More details will be available in future editions of this newsletter and on my social media channels.

GRITTING AND ROADS

The weather is getting colder and measures are being taken in East Dunbartonshire to keep us all safe when the winter conditions arrive.

Crews from the local council are now on call 24/7 and you can get up-to-the-minute information on gritting at the link here. A form to report issues is also available there.
