SCOTTISH LIBERAL DEMOCRAT CONFERENCE

Thanks to everyone who made it to Scottish Liberal Democrat conference this past weekend.

Such a great chance to celebrate our wins, plan for the future, and meet old and new friends.

UK VISA UPDATES

The rules for entering the UK are changing. You’ll soon need an Electronic Travel Authorisation. More more information, check here

Physical documents are being replaced by eVisas as evidence for permission to be in the UK. If this impacts you, information is available here.

STANDING UP FOR OUR FAMILY FARMS

I was proud to join with my Liberal Democrat colleagues to support our farmers at the Farmers Protest in London this week.

Our family farms keep us fed and they need our support. That’s why we’re calling on the UK Government to axe their tax on farmers.

THE PASSING OF JOHN PRESCOTT

I was saddened to hear of the passing of former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott.

My thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

BUILDING HOPE FOR BEREAVED YOUNG PEOPLE

Building Hope for bereaved children, young people, and their families is so very important.

No young person should be left alone to deal with grief and I’m proud to support Children’s grief awareness week to help make it so.

A UK WITHOUT THE NEED FOR FOOD BANKS

People needing to rely on foodbanks is a scandal in a country like ours in which everyone should have enough to eat.

That’s why I’m joining with Trussell in their fight for a UK without the need for food banks.

PETITION: MILNGAVIE AND BEARSDEN HEALTH AND CARE CENTRE

The Milngavie and Bearsden community needs a new local health and care centre. Residents and professionals need these improved services to deliver the health outcomes we need.

We have launched a community petition. If you haven’t already, please sign our petition. Join us to make it clear just how strong the strength of feeling is and what we care about in our community.

Please, sign here.

East Dunbartonshire Council’s waste service will not be operational on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, 1 January 2025 and 2 January 2025.

A full breakdown of refuse collection is available here.

PROTECTING UNBORN CHILDREN AND EXPECTANT MOTHERS

Expectant mothers and unborn children should be protected by the Health and Safety at Work Act. That's why I'm backing this Change.org petition to make it so. You can join the campaign here

LOCAL PLANNING CONSULTATIONS

Views are being sought on a range of planning issues including the historic environment, housing and developer contributions for schools.

You can find all the information here

WINTER SUN LAMPS

Mental health is as important as physical health. As the long nights start to draw in, it's important to keep good mental health in mind.

That's why I'm happy to support our local libraries who will be the first in Scotland to offer Wintering Well Boxes, including sun lamps and other tools to help combat seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

You can find out more about the initiative here

NEXT DROP-IN SURGERY

Information about my upcoming surgeries will be available in future editions of this newsletter and via my social media channels.
