A local update from your Liberal Democrat MP for Mid Dunbartonshire, Susan Murray. On this week's update, small business Saturday, supporting electoral reform and a number of weekly updates.

Small Business Saturday 2024

We're lucky in Mid Dunbartonshire to have many great small businesses that provide excellent goods and services to our community.

Small Business Saturday is our chance to support them in the run-up to the festive season. I was delighted to pop into one of our local businesses, Street Image in Kirkintilloch, for some relaxation.

Canniesburn Toll

Liberal Democrats on East Dunbartonshire Council have tabled a motion to force the SNP/Labour administration to monitor traffic at the Canniesburn Toll for at least six months.

The motion calls for an interim report on traffic in the area and the costs incurred, among other requirements.

There will be a vote at the full Council meeting on 19 December. The full text of the motion is available here.

That's TV on Fuel Bills

The UK Government must reinstate the Winter Fuel Payment and freeze fuel bills to protect our most vulnerable pensioners through the winter months.

Thanks to That's TV for having me on to discuss this critical subject.

Supporting Electoral Reform

First-past-the-post is a broken and unfair system that does not serve the modern UK. We need proportional representation to restore trust in our democracy.

I was proud to help my Lib Dem colleague, Sarah Olney, secure a second reading of her 10-Minute Rule Bill on electoral reform.

Ed Davey's Christmas Single

Our Lib Dem leader, Ed Davey, has teamed up with the Bath Philharmonia Young Carers' Choir to release a beautiful Christmas song called Love Is Enough

The song has been recorded to support the Carers' Trust. Please consider sharing it and helping us get it up the charts this year.

DIARY DATES FOR FESTIVE BIN COLLECTIONS

East Dunbartonshire Council’s waste service will not be operational on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, 1 January 2025 and 2 January 2025.

A full breakdown of refuse collection is available here.

LOCAL PLANNING CONSULTATIONS

Views are being sought on a range of planning issues including the historic environment, housing and developer contributions for schools.
