YouGov poll shows Susan Murray the main challenger for Mid Dunbartonshire
The latest MRP YouGov poll shows that Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate Susan Murray is the main challenger to the SNP in Mid Dunbartonshire.
Scottish Liberal Democrats have announced that Councillor Susan Murray will be the party’s candidate for East Dunbartonshire.
The seat is the most marginal in Scotland, with Liberal Democrats behind by just 149 votes. The party is also the main opposition to the SNP on East Dunbartonshire council, in a seat which voted 61% No in the 2014 referendum. It is the party’s top target seat across the whole UK.
Susan was formerly the European marketing director for an international medical device company. Since then she has used her business experience to make real changes for local communities, including helping a charity in East Dunbartonshire and raising almost £500,000 to get a skate park for young people in Kirkintilloch and is now raising funds to get one in Bishopbriggs.
During the pandemic she was also instrumental in setting up the charity Community Response in East Dunbartonshire (CRED) which delivered shopping, prescriptions and helped vulnerable people.
In 2006 Susan became full time carer for her husband after he suffered a brain haemorrhage. With this experience she understands the pressures on unpaid carers and how vital they are. Thankfully her husband has now recovered.
Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton said:
"Susan isn’t a typical politician – she has real life experience she can use to get the best for local people.
"The SNP have been awful for Scotland. Their obsession with independence has distracted them from the challenges people are facing every day like long waits for GP appointments, the cost-of-living crisis and the disruption on our railways.
"Meanwhile the Conservatives are reduced to making excuses for a Prime Minister who partied while women gave birth alone and people said goodbye to their loved ones by video call.
"In this ultra-marginal seat a vote for Susan will send a message that it is time for a change."
Susan Murray said:
"East Dunbartonshire needs a local champion, not just another SNP politician obsessed with independence.
"Through my charity work and my time as a local councillor I have shown that I will always put East Dunbartonshire first. I’m looking forward to getting stuck into campaigning once again."
