Susan Murray Votes to Exempt Local GPs and Care Homes from "Health Tax"

Mid Dunbartonshire's MP, Susan Murray, voted to support a Liberal Democrat amendment that would exempt local health and care providers from the UK Government's planned rise in employers’ national insurance.
But Labour MPs voted down the amendment meaning that local care homes, pharmacies, GPs and dentists face a national insurance tax hike despite the health service already being in crisis and many of these providers already on the brink of bankruptcy.
Susan has campaigned for more and better health and care services for the area, including for a new health and care centre for Milngavie and Bearsden, which would ease pressure on hospitals by allowing patients to be seen closer to home.
Alongside her Liberal Democrat colleagues in the House of Commons, Susan has called on the Chancellor to U-turn at the Spring Statement next week so patients don’t have to pay the price of fewer health and care services.
Susan Murray MP said:
"I was proud to vote with my Liberal Democrat colleagues to protect local health services in Mid Dunbartonshire from this health tax.
Years of neglect, underfunding, and poor planning by the Tories and the SNP have undermined the NHS, resulting in longer wait times and more patients worrying about the level of care they can rely on.
This health tax will make things worse. The Chancellor must u-tun on this at the Spring Statement and the UK Government and Scottish Government should work together to properly fund health and care services, including a new health and care centre for Milngavie and Bearsden."
