MAIDEN SPEECH
I was delighted to give my maiden speech in the House of Commons and talk about all the fantastic things people in Mid Dunbartonshire have done and are doing.
It also was good to highlight our heritage by mentioning Thomas Muir of Bishoppbrigs and his role in extending democracy.
In my speech, I said:
"One message that came across loud and clear on the doorsteps was that residents in Mid Dunbartonshire are tired of voting against things; they want to vote positively for things.
"Thomas Muir of Huntershill in Bishopbriggs was a famous son of Mid Dunbartonshire.
At the end of the 18th century, he was a strenuous advocate of equal representation of the people in the House of the people, where I stand today. He said:
“'I have devoted myself to the cause of the people. It is a good cause. It shall ultimately prevail. It shall finally triumph.'”
I am proud to have been elected by our community to represent us at Westminster and will always put Mid Dunbartonshire first.
